LOW VOLTAGE LANDSCAPE LIGHTING IN WILDWOOD

This front yard natural landscape in Wildwood Southwest Calgary has an exposed aggregate concrete curb edge to give it a real sharp, defined look. Curbing helps prevent erosion in your garden and improves irrigation to your plants. It is practically maintenance-free; you will spend less time trimming and edging plus its very cost effective. Most curbs are installed in a day, are high quality, durable, and long-lasting. Throughout the bed are rustic Cranbrook feature boulders to help diversify the yard and make it look great year-round. At night, this yard comes to life thanks to low voltage landscape lighting. It makes your home more inviting to guests and transforms your dark home into a bold, illuminated showplace. It also provides more functional uses such as a security benefit and visibility to increase safety when walking outside at night. Montane garden mulch was added to retain water for the trees, shrubs and perennials planted. It’s a fine pine and spruce mix composted to a deep brown.
NATURAL LANDSCAPE STONE STEPS AND FEATURE BOULDERS
Natural stone steps and feature boulders were used at this large property in the Wiaparous/Cochrane area. All the stone is rustic Cranbrook steps and boulders which come in a variety of sizes. Large stones were used here to have them scale on the acreage. A dark grey rundle shale path was used around the cabin at the bottom of the retaining wall. It combines the feeling of a natural landscape surface path with a surface that is durable but is not a concrete product. It feels more like a trail than a hard-surfaced path. A contractor-grade landscape fabric was laid on the prepared subsoil before the shale was installed to prevent weed growth, and the shale itself was compacted when damp to bond all the particles together and create a firm path. Foothills premium mulch was used in the garden beds to help with weed control, moisture retention, deterring pests, preventing soil erosion, and maintaining soil nutrients. It’s made from pine bark and spruce chips with a deep brown colour and is important to have a good 3” base of it for having a healthy garden.

FEATURE BOULDERS BORDER A DRY RIVERBED IN WIAPAROUS

This naturalized area in the Wiaparous/Cochrane area has large rustic Cranbrook feature boulders to border the dry riverbed, retain the upper garden bed, to help fill in a large space and give it some texture. A dry riverbed was constructed as an eye-catching focal point and help divide space up in this large garden area. 4-8” river rock was used which is a natural landscape rock that is grey in colour. Drought-resistant and native plantings were used in this non irrigated garden. Once established these plants have much-reduced water needs, usually what mother nature provides is enough water for them. They have less plant disease and more pest resistance. Their roots grow deeper which helps stabilize slopes and are overall attractive plants with less maintenance. There is also a great benefit with native plantings to local wildlife since they rely on the seeds, nuts, berries, and nectar of these local varieties.
